This was a very interesting tour. Although Wuzhen has been commercialised and was crowded, the essential elements of a Chinese village have been preserved. Unfortunately this was our young tour guide\'s first visit to Wuzhen, so she was very nervous. However, she had obviously spent a lot of time researching and memorising facts about Wuzhen and she gave us excellent explanations of the various sights as we went around. We also found that the English notices around the various workshops, etc., were detailed and informative. The lunch, served complete with the local chrysanthemum tea, was more than enough for the two of us and was very tasty. It was a shame that we missed the shadow puppets and the boxing boat display which had finished for lunchtime by the time we got around to them, and re-started too late for us to see in the afternoon. If our guide had been to Wuzhen before, she may have known this and organised the tour in a slightly different order. This was really our only criticism of the day, but you should be aware that the obligatory shopping opportunity is to a silk workshop, although there are several souvenir shops at Wuzhen itself if you are interested in the local handicrafts.
