Be transfered from your hotel here in Beijing and take you to Railway Station for the overnight train K608 (23:36 - 06:21) or 2603 (23:47-07:01) from Beijing to Datong, the famous coal city in China. Day 2 Datong -> Pingyao (by private van) (B, L, D)
A local tour guide will meet you at the railway station and take you out for breakfast. Walk around the downtown area where you will see the Nine-Dragon Screen and some old streets and then go for Yungang Grottoes and Hanging Monastery at 9:00am and then directly drive to Pingyao. Upon arrival, check in local Yide or Dejuyuan local hostel. - Yungang Grottoes: A treasure house of rare and splendid Chinese sculptures enjoys worldwide fame. These grottoes are the main reason most people make it to Datong. The grottoes contain over 50,000 Buddihist statues and stretch for about 1 km east to west. -Suspending Temple(Hanging Monastery): This monastery is just outside the town of Hunyuan, 65km south-east of Datong. Built precariously on sheer cliffs above Jinlong Canyon,the monastery dates back more than 1400 years. Its halls and pavilions were built along the contours of the cliff face using the natural hollows and outcrops. The buildings are connected by corridors, bridges and boardwalks and contain bronze, iron and stone statues of gods and buddhas. Day 3 Pingyao (B, L, D)
The highlight of today's tour will be wandering around the old town of Pingyao, which was built according to the traditional Han Chinese town planning and architectural style. Four main streets, eight narrower ones and 72 small lanes formed a neat grid. The town's dwellings were built either in the style of courtyard houses or man-made cave-houses. Old temples and shops are still scattered all over the town which bring back memories of its flourishing past. A visit to Shuanglin Temple in the afternoon. Return to Folk Hotel. Day 4 Pingyao -> Taiyuan -> Beijing (B, L, D)
After breakfast, we will go to Taiyuan, the capital city of Shanxi Province, and visit Qiao's Courtyard Houses Complex and Jinci Temple on the way. After dinner, we will take the overnight train K602 (21:30-08:05) or K610 (21:20-05:28) from Taiyuan to Beijing. Day 5 Beijing
Arrive Beijing in the morning. Take your own way to hotel. Tour Finished. Hotel options:
