Hotel was absolutely great, but problem is they no longer accept tourist bookings. I tried the last time I was in Beijing in 2012 to book a room there but was told that they no longer accepted tourists. I had been using this hotel for about 10 years, so this was a real surprise. Now I stay in a hotel in the Hutong area...

The Beijing Dong Chang An Hotel is like many in China. It looks impressive and has very attentive staff. But it has not had daily care that is necessary to make American visitors really want to return to it. The room we had was in need of new carpet. The carpet had many burn spots. The bathroom had a tub and shower head but its configuration still caused water to be on the floor. The breakfast buffet was advertised as having some Western foods. The offering had very few. We did not see nor was a menu option given for the restaurant. Although it was relatively far from the major tourist venues we liked its location near the Silk Market and Embassy buildings...

This hotel is really NOT GOOD. If you don't speack chinese you won't be comfortable at this hotel. In fact, they take the reservation but they put the price of a DELUXE room when they give you a STANDARD room. Be carefull with that... Also you must "leave a deposit" for almost any you would want to do (i.e.: call by phone or internet) The breakfast is extremly poor if you are not familiar with chinese breackfast. It is better to cross the avenue and go to one of the many western options you have there. The bathroom is almost an "airplane bathroom". If you just need to sleep, you can go here, but take care... The Great Wall TOUR: I made a reservation, it was comfirmed, but NOBODY came to the hotel. This is a GREAT LIE SPANISH Este hotel es definitivamente una porquería, si uno pretende estar medianamente cómodo.

Dong Chang An Hotel is located across the street from the Silk Market and near the famous Tian An Men Square, Forbidden City, and many other famous Communist Chinese Government buildings. This hotel is near the center of Beijing and it is affordable, and clean. The staff is friendly and accomadating. Regardless if you are in Beijing for site seeing or shopping, Dong Chang An Hotel is located in the right place; and it is affordable!..

The good: Dong Chang An has a very good location. It's across Silk Market, and steps away from the subway station. What needs to be improved: The bathroom is very small and cramped. The staff is courteous and helpful but hardly speaks any English. It became a problem when they charged my credit card for the deposit and when I was checking out, the charges were smaller than the deposit, so I was telling the girl at the counter that they should cancel the earlier charge on my card and make a new one reflecting the actual charges. She repeatedly told me no, that she can't do it. Of course, I was irked. She would leave me and call someone on the phone. We did not understand each other, it was a long and frustrating discussion. Finally, she tore the earlier deposit slip, and made a new one with my card. That was when I understood that she knew what to do, but just can't say it. She probably thought I was demanding for cash change. Likewise even if my reservation with Hotel Guide China was confirmed - when I arrived at the hotel, they were not sure I had a reservation ( I had to turn on my laptop and show them the confirmation email), but accomodated me anyway. Other than that, Dong Chang An gives good value for the money...
