When I arrived , at first they had no booking from me . After 5mn argument , they found my booking , but with some mismatch in the name. Instead of checking me in and sorting the mess later , it took them 15 more minutes to understand what happened . They also manipulated my passport long time without care. Then , at 5.45am , I got a call from the hotel proposing some special massage , which I never requested. It was a mistake , and , bad to worse , at 7.30am I got another call to apologize for the first one!!! MARVELOUS SUNDAY MORNING! also , the TV seems to require special skills . A BIG MESS..

VERY MESSY At first , they did not have my booking. After 5mn arguing in chinese , they found it , but with some mismatch in the name . It took 15 more minutes to sort this out before giving me the key. Then , TV required a technical skill to be operated , and only chinese channels. WORSE: they called me at 5.45am to offer a special massage . Then , they called again at 7.30am to apologize , it was a mistake : awaken twice a sunday morning. Slow check out also ...

I arrived there sometime after 9:00pm and the staff i met at the reception were very friendly and eager to get me settled in. I had called them while i was in the taxi to let them know that i was on my way and so they were expecting me. Although the guy at the counter couldn't speak English, he tried to listen to my broken Chinese but eventually called his manager who confirmed that i had booked a room and they went ahead to offer me one. Initially i thought they had offered me the Business Deluxe room i initially booked but on arriving there i discovered that they gave me a suit. I was surprised but again, i thought maybe it's the standard of the hotel. I had planned to stay there only one night before moving to the People's palace hotel because they have tennis courts as i can play tennis there. When i discovered that Xuanwumen hotel was strategically located where you have access to nearly all the places i will always be interested in visiting, i decided to stay there longer. I like travelling by subway, not only because it's cheap and affordable but also because you don't have to stand under the sun waiting for a taxi especially in summer. I don't like heat, so at the metro station, i feel cool since the air conditioning is better. This is the primary reason i decided to stay longer in Xuanwumen hotel but it's not the only reason as i think the staff are very friendly and understanding as i'll tell you in the next paragraph. When i made up my mind to stay there longer, i went to the reception in the morning to let them know that i will be staying longer that i planned and they said no problem. So, i gave them the room fee for 3 days, went back to my room and took a shower leaving for my intended business about an hour later. When i came back in the afternoon, i couldn't open my door and so i went to the reception to find out why. The girl whose shift just started informed me that they wanted to change my room. I was surprised as nobody told me this in the morning when i was paying the money or even when i was leaving for my days activities. I asked to see the room and they took me there but it was far much smaller and not as good as the one they had offered me the night before. I went back to the reception and asked them why and i was informed that when i arrived the day before, they had given the room i booked to another guest, so they just decided to give me the suit as it was their fault that i didn't have a room. although i appreciated the fact that they did this, i was mad because at the time no one informed me of this and i wanted to know why they didn't until now. The girl couldn't speak English well so she kept on repeating the same sentence over and over. The hall manager just came out maybe to do something at that time and heard the question i asked and she approached me asking me if they didn't inform me before that they just gave me a different and higher quality room because the one i booked wasn't available. I answered that they didn't and she immediately told the girl who wanted to change my room that they should let me stay for the period i have paid since i wasn't informed earlier and that was it. She just turned to me and said, don't worry! You said you are staying until saturday, right? I said, yes and she said, that's ok and that they won't change my room anymore. I liked the way she reacted to this issue and that has kept a lasting impression on me. In general, i plan to stay at Xuanwumen hotel whenever i come to Beijing because of everything. The staff are friendly though none speaks English, the environment is good, the rooms are cleaned everyday as soon as you live the hotel, that business suit was good for a family getaway, there is a metro stop right there, there are banks, restaurants, you can name the rest. I like the place although i later moved to the People's palace hotel where i spent two more days , the only reason was to play tennis. Between those two, i will still prefer xuanwumen hotel but they should try to find someone who can speak a little English...

==I was a guest at the Yue Xiu hotel for four nights. ==Upon my arrival, the assistant manager and the reception clerk were very friendly and helpful. Other staff with whom I dealt were also helpful. ==The location of the hotel is very convenient. The subway station is just across the street. The line goes directly to major tourist sites in the city. ==The area around the hotel is modern and useful for shopping needs. A SOGO department store is a block away, and one block on the same road from it is a large WAL MART Supermarket. ==My only problem with the hotel is the breakfast which is available. If you are accustomed to a Chinese breakfast, then the variety of choices will appeal to you. However, I need a Western breakfast, and my choices were very limited...

The hotel in general is conviently located from the city center(forbidden city and tianamen sq) but is far from the airport. Though it's difficult to find a reasonably good hotel near the airport. Considering the fact that most of the hotels are far from the airport(which itself is some 40-45 km from the city) the location is convenient. Taxi fare from the airport to the hotel is nearly 110RMB(incl the 10RMB tax). The hotel is neat and clean. The staff is friendly, though none of them can communicate in good English(this is a big problem everywhere in China). Rooms are clean and AC and television works fine. However, the standard room has a shower smaller than a phone booth which is a pain. Lifts work fine and even the hotel staff is cooperative and helpful. I did not have any problems in general...

Fairly good and reasonably clean. Toilet having too small area for shower curtain. Did not state that it's a bit far from airport. Alternative to go to airport is a distance. I am a Moslem traveller, thus I feel that Hotels in China should be able to advertise for Moslem food to cater for us or at least vegetarian restaurant. Other than that their signages are mostly in Mandarin. Doesn't matter whatever distance from the hotel, but the information is ready available for us. For e.g. Nuijie Mosque - Moslem area where you can get food easily. There are a lot of Moslem traveller now going everywhere in the world. Can't get a free map at the hotel. I have to pay for a map. Your Tourism Board is not friendly. Your subway is all in Mandarin, how do you expect us to read? Anyway, it's a good place to shop! We enjoyed ourselves but it's too dustry...

Standard room has a shower smaller than a phone booth - if you close the shower curtain, it sticks to your skin with all of it's clammy, mildewed might. If you don't close it, the water dumps out all over the bathroom floor. Bed was a single. TV had no movie channels other than pay-per-view. Breakfast was easily the worst hotel breakfast I've had in asia. Internet use in the lobby was 1 Yuan per minute. Biggest rip-off I've ever encountered. It's very close to Xuanwumen subway station - that's good. However, it's close to nothing else, and Tiananmen is actually 2 stops away. The only bottled water stocked in the minibar is Evian at 15 Yuan (nearly $2) per bottle; I don't want haute french mineral water, I just want something to drink. Breakfast is at 7am - great fun when the tour leaves at 7:30. Took the hotel's tour to the Great Wall and Ming Tombs, and despite their assurances, was taken to both a jade store and a "chinese medcine school." (both are standard scams listed in Lonely Planet guide book). The tour is described as "Ming Tombs" (note the plural), however only one tomb was visited, and we were rushed through it without any real information given...
