Standard room has a shower smaller than a phone booth - if you close the shower curtain, it sticks to your skin with all of it's clammy, mildewed might. If you don't close it, the water dumps out all over the bathroom floor. Bed was a single. TV had no movie channels other than pay-per-view. Breakfast was easily the worst hotel breakfast I've had in asia.
Internet use in the lobby was 1 Yuan per minute. Biggest rip-off I've ever encountered.
It's very close to Xuanwumen subway station - that's good. However, it's close to nothing else, and Tiananmen is actually 2 stops away. The only bottled water stocked in the minibar is Evian at 15 Yuan (nearly $2) per bottle; I don't want haute french mineral water, I just want something to drink.
Breakfast is at 7am - great fun when the tour leaves at 7:30.
Took the hotel's tour to the Great Wall and Ming Tombs, and despite their assurances, was taken to both a jade store and a "chinese medcine school." (both are standard scams listed in Lonely Planet guide book). The tour is described as "Ming Tombs" (note the plural), however only one tomb was visited, and we were rushed through it without any real information given.
