Siberian Tiger Park

Siberian Tiger Park

The mission of the Siberian Tiger Park in Songbeixin district is to study, breed, and release and ultimately save the Manchurian tiger from extinction. However, while you are definitely promised a very up-close look at the 70 captive cats, those who not too keen on zoos might be best to give this supposed sanctuary a miss. The fenced-off field feels far too small for these bored looking beasts, never mind the touring minibuses whose drivers blare their horns and play chicken with the cats to the delight of the tourists. The drivers continually encourage passengers to buy chunks of meat to throw to the tigers, which makes you wonder how exactly the park is preparing these animals for the wild. It is roughly 20km outside the city.
