 | Unfortunately we didn't have great weather, our hotel advised us that we shouldn't go as we wouldn't see anything but when I tried to ask the tour guide this he told me it wasn't a problem and it would be fine. As you can imagine, we didn't see anything. Also it's cheaper if you book through your hotel, our hotel (the Lijiang Waterfall) was offering a private car for the 2 of us for 400RMB (the same price) which means you don't need to pay for another smaller bus to go to the hills. plus you don't need to keep hanging around waiting for people to get back to the bus. I'm not sure whether this would have included the show (which was actually incredibly naff).
So, although I'm sure it's worth a visit if you get a nice day, don't feel like you need to book before you go, you will get a better deal there and you can wait and see what the weather is going to be like. We went during a Chinese holiday and still it would have been fine to book when we got there.
