Everything about this tour #188718 has been a failure. Here is why: For a start the agency did not pick us up as agreed Wednesday July 18 AND we were NOT informed, we just waited in the hotel lobby at 8 AM. Finally after 1, 5 hours we OURSELVES managed to get in contact with ChinaTours. And this is not easy with Danish cell phones and the cost is high. ChinaTour apologized and said we would get 200 Yuan refunded due to the no show. Then they said thay could do the tour the next day and knowning that we had to catch a flight 20:20. 2) When I booked the original tour in an e-mail Mondag July 9 I specified that we wanted to do the plank walk ( I wrote in a reply "It is ok she (meaning the guide) does not do the climb (the plank), we need some guidance on how and where to embark on the climb (the plank) - and more important is that after the short hiking on the plank we like to Take mini bus to the cable car start point at north hill, then change to aim to west hill or middle hill or south hill. After that, we need to return to north hill and take the cable car to get down the hill. It that feasible?" BUT AS IT TURNED OUT THIS WAS NOT FEASIBLE at all as your agency did not manage our expectations about local conditions as we ended up cancelling the tour due to lack of professionel guidance from your side. The real tour we was offered left NO TIME to hike anyone peak than the northern peak maybe because the west cable car was closed and the pressure on the north gate cable car was increased and waiting times were very long. So AFTER we arrived at the north gate the guide told us the real schedule: 7-9 drive to Mountain, 9-12 waiting Line (tickets, golf car, cable car), 12:00- 14:00 on the Mountain - which makes it impossible to hike north circuit or reach South Gate (wooden plank) which was why we booked this tour (as I mentioned in my booking e-mail); 14:00- 15 waiting cable plus golf car, Down 15-17 drive back to hotel. THIS SCHEDULE GAVE US 2 HOURS ON THE MOUNTAIN ONLY - 4 hours driving time, 4 hours waiting in line time and 2 hours hiking - and NO CHANCE TO HIKE THE PLANK, the Guide told us we would need to wait another 1-2 hours if we wanted to hike the plank. We have been in contact with mr Wang - he promised to give us some reduction 200 CNY due to the NO show day 1 - but as we did not accept your offer about a transpotation to the airport - we have the impression that these 200 CNY are lost?! Not to be refunded? Why not transfer by card - mobile pay? ( Wang wrote "And sorry for today's arrangement, I forgot to send the details to our guide and driver that they didn't come to your hotel, that is my mistake, anyway the airport drop-off for tomorrow costs 300CNY in total, we will pay 200CNY for you and you pay another 100CNY to our guide, is it OK?") After the cancellation of the tour day 2 I wrote Wang and told his about our frustations about this tour - but Wang wrote: "For today's Huashan Tour, we are sorry about it, as we cannot tell how busy will it be everyday and everyone has to wait for entrance to get up to th emountain. And today our driver and guide picked you up and drave to the mountain, the service provided, so we are sorry that we have paid full amount to guide and driver and cannot make refund for you." And I wrote back to Wang: "You say we have to wait like others and yes of course we must wait in line like others. We do not mind waiting in line - but the essence is that you could at least have explained to us before we bought the tour that we should be aware that up till 1/3 of the time we should expect to stand in a line, to Manage our expectations that is what a tour agency is supposed to do. We have not received any guidance about waiting times as anticipated from a tour agency. We can ourselves read in the guidebook that there are longer waiting times at summer up till 1 or 1,5 hours. And We could have taken a taxi to the site for 1000 and received the same services. Because the guide did facilitate anything or do anything we could not have done ourselves. What we can not read in a guidebook is that the West gate cable car is closed so the pressure on the north gate cable car is even more increased this is what we pay an agency to be updated about- so therefore your agency could at least have told us this - this is the local knowledge we will pay extra for otherwise we can take a car from the hotel. " Before we arrived in Xián we had been in China for a week we have visited (without guides) the forbidden city, summer palace, the Great Wall and other places and NONE of these places have we been waiting in line for more than 30 minuets- how are we supposed to know before hand that this tour includes only 2 hours hiking out of 4 hours waiting time? Do you think you have given us the best possible service as a tour agency and provided us local knowledge and insights that we cannot read ourselves in a guidebook ? We cancelled the airport transfer as the hotel charged 150 yuan for the same service. We are therefore looking very much forward to hear from you. We have booked flight ticktes and train tickets with ChinaTour and these services we have enjoyed and have absolutely no complain about. However this tour was a faillure. We rented a car with a driver for 8 hours to visit the Terracotta Warriors and watch a outdoor lights show on the lake. The driver was very kind and friendly.
