The room of the New Asia Hotel is a bit small but facilities in the room are tastefully designed and kept clean daily. Very good value for the money. It is also near to the Bund and there are many food stores/ restaurants near by.

We stayed for 4 nights at New Asia Hotel. The room was tiny, but very nice and clean. They really did a good job on the renovation.. Toilet, bath, sink were brand new and modern style... The location was perfect! Very close to everything (bund, nanjing road and also some markets). We would recommend this hotel. The service was ok depending on the person at the reception. They did a good job on cleaning the room too. We didn't get a nice view though frome our room (room 715) and our bed was hard..

I originally planned to stay only one day before I moved to the much more expensive hotel (six times the price - without a view and not so close to the Bund!) with the rest of my business group. However, the other hotel booking had been booked erroneously and I New Asia Hotel did not mind at all extending my stay by a day. The other hotel was still unhelpful the following day and I decided to stay another 3 nights. For a small increase in price I asked to change to the other side of the building (I started in room 735 and moved to 712) so I could have a great view of the Pearl Tower. It was great looking out my window at the lovely skyscape. Internet was easy to use and reasonably priced. The business centre was okay. The massage/beauty centre was also quite good. The breakfast was reasonably priced, but cold two mornings and moved around depending on other events happening. The location was great I could walk over to the Huangpo river, the metro. I was afraid it was unsafe as a review indicated that, but I think they were mistaken and jumped to wrong conclusions. Definitely good value and friendly helpful service.

I was looking for a hotel in Shanghai, and come up with on-line booking thru this website. I found one alternative hotel that is close to the city, just a view minutes from the bund, YuYuan or even to Nanjing road, thus I paid less for the transportation yet the hotel is not too way expensive. I choose new Asia hotel, and I just take a cab, went to this hotel. I thought for my first impression, the location is very much not tourist kind of location, it is very local with a crowded street andn lots of store selling tools and machinary part. I hardly find any tourist there. Then I reached the hotel, it was very much gloomy colour outside and inside of the lobby. During check in, I was thinking that that this might be a very cheap hotel that you will not feel comfortable, stinky and minght be lots of bugs inside. BUT THAT WAS WRONG...by the time I enter the room, it is clean and neat. I read about this hotel mission to be a green hotel, which I could see the real action to get the mission. First, I was looking into drinking water, but I could not find any. At last I found a water tap in the bath room, hot tap, cold tap and one drinking water tap. The hotel will not produce drinking water pack at least and friendly to environment the other thing was shampoo and soap, both were put in the dispenser that is attached to the wall, very easy to use and less waste of shampoo and soap packaging. it is clean and neat, no stinky things or bugs around...and the next day I can see not only me strangers in this hotel, there's a lot of western tourist as well.... I just like to stay in this hotel.....but I have to shorten my staying as I have to change my flight schedule due to some reason. some improvement that need to be done : - there are about 40 - 50 TV channel, only one with English, one France and one japanese..the rest is in mandarin/chinese language...it might not easy for tourist to watch the TV...perhaps they have to add more English language - more friendly hotel staff, to make the guest feel more comfortable

My family of three stayed in New Asia Hotel for 3 nights, before heading to Hangzhou and Suzhou, and returned to stay another night. The hotel is within walking distance to Nanjing shopping street (also subway station) and the bund, if you don't mind 20-min walk. You also get to see the not-so-pretty side of Shanghai% as the hotel is situated in a neighbourhood that is quite run down. It would be quite scary to walk alone. There is a few wholesale complexes for ladies' clothes and there is even a street market selling ladies' clothes on Saturday night. I'm sure the price must be good as it was really crowded and noisy with all the bargaining going on. A few streets from the hotel (towards the Bund) is Zhapu Road (乍浦路) with many Seafood restaurants. The hotel rooms are ok in general, clean and come with necessary amenities such as hairdryer and drinking water. However, the beds in Room 314 were very hard, felt like sleeping on planks. On our return stay at Room 520, the beds are ok.

The room was good, and the stay was comfortable. The neighborhood is not good and unsafe to walk in the night. The plus point was that it was close to the bund and the nanjing street.

We were sleeping for 3 nights in this hotel, we slept in room 749 and it was a clean room, with space it was not big but we had enough space to put our bags, the bed was unconfortable, we didnīt have a mattress it didnt felt like it cause we couldnīt sleep as well as our backs heart the next day, so we werenīt very happy about this, the people in the front desk were helpful but they didnīt speak a very good english, also the neighborhood was not very pretty, I have to admitt that itīs close to the bund but at night itīs scary, we tried to ask to the ladies in the front desk if it was safe for us to walk at night thru this neighbor but they didnīt understand. Also when we checked out we were in a hurry cause we had to go to the airport early in the morning, they took a long time to search in our room to see if we havenīt took something, so my husband complained with the gentleman in the front desk that was checking us out but he didnīt know what we were talking about and a lady surprise us cause she start to race her voice to us and she was rude and unhelpful.

We have just spent 4 days in Shanghai New Asia and found our room stylish, spacious and clean -- much better than we expected. The Internet connection was trouble free and reasonably priced. The room was number 244, which I think is classed as "business". The little gym was fine, the equipment wotked but it would be good to have some weights there and a fan!

I have just spent 4 days in Shanghai New Asia and I must say that I was greatly impressed overall with the Hotel. I was a little apprehensive with internet bookings but no problems at all with this hotel. The location was good. I walked everywhere once I had a map from the reception. I found Taxi s took you the long way. Close to all the shopping. I had breakfast included which was very good for the price and good selection both Chinese and Western. The staff were more than happy to be of assistance. I cannot say enough about this Hotel it is the best one I have stayed in China. I gave 10 out of 10.

Though this hotel wasn't my first choice to stay, it turned out to be an excellent stay. I was impressed with the Lobby Manager who not only speaks English very well; but provided an excellent service when I requested to change to a higher floor after the first night stay. One of the Bell Boy provided clear guidance on going around that area to the Bund and good shopping areas; and even made an effort to have them written in Chinese for the taxi drivers. The exchange rate at the hotel was very competitive compared to money changers at home country. The location of the hotel is great; Bund is within walking distance; just around the corner of the hotel is the Shanghai Department Store whereby prices are reasonable and goods of quality. Within walking distance is a street famous for food and where fruit stalls are found. There are numerous stores selling clothes nearby the hotel. But if you are not good in bargain, I suggested that you should not shop in these stores. Nanjing Pedestrian Street is also nearby; by taxi is only about RMB12

Having had confusing reports in Australia about the standard of accommodation in China I was pleasantly surprised on arrival at the Shanghai New Asia Hotel. The location is perfect for most Shanghai sightseeing. It was convienient to the Railway Station, all subway lines and the Bund. Our room had a view across the river to the Pearl Tower. Unlike some of the other hotels we were able to walk rather than take taxis and this is certainly the best way to see a city. The room had an opening window which was good rather than Air Conditioning all the time. Star ratings don't mean much unless you want swimming pools, gym's and all the other trapping's. The Shanghai New Asia is far underated as only 3 star. I would certainly stay again. Full marks to Hotel Guide China for their recommendation.
