 | Shanghai Salvo Hotel
On the first day, the hotel gave us a bad room, on our request they did give us a good room on the 2nd day for the rest of the week. Other than that, the hotel was fine.
By the way, Shanghai was a big disappointment. The first night we went to the Bund and were accosted by many beggars and aggressive vendors. (Other nights the police were out so the beggars stayed away.) Then I found a compartment of my backpack open (but nothing missing, thank goodness.) Another night, my husband found a compartment of his backpack open. Someone handed him his calculator and said it had dropped out (wrong... it was velcroed in.) I guess he stole it then realized it was just a cheap calculator, not a camera or cell phone. So we learned not to use backpacks. Also, I hated the sound of hawking and spitting.
Beijing has definitely benefitted from the etiquette lessons for everyone before the Olympics. Shanghai should do the same before their Expo in 2010. Room scams, beggars, pickpockets, hawking and spitting.... I don\'t think I\'ll be going back to that city nor that hotel.
