Spring Festival Holiday and National Holiday are two major holidays in China. Both of them last for about 7 days.
Spring Festival Holiday begins on the day of December 30th of Chinese Lunar Calendar, which is usually in late January or early February in the Gregorian calendar. It lasts for 7 days. Spring Festival is the festival for family members to get together, just like Christmas in the West. Before the Spring Festival, most Chinese people will go back home, thus becoming the busiest days of transportation nationwide, which is called Spring Festival Rush. Therefore, on the days before the festival and the days after the festival, there will be so many people travelling in the country and train tickets are very hard to get. It is suggested that tourists avoid travelling during the festival. If not, it is best for tourists to book the tickets 30 days in advance. Or air travel may be a little easier.
The Spring Festival Holiday of the year 2017 is from January 27th to February 2nd. The train tickets will be in short supply from about January 13th to February 21st. Prepare your tour in advance.
National Day Holiday
National Day is a day to celebrate the founding of People’s Republic of China. The holiday usually begins on the day of October 1st, sometimes 1 or two days before October 1st. The holiday lasts for 7 days. Chinese people like to travel on the National Day Holiday. There will be a lot of people in well-known tourist attractions. Train tickets for tourist cities will be very tight.
Besides Spring Festival Holiday and National Day Holiday, there are also New Year’s Day, Tomb-sweeping Day, May Day, Dragon Boat Festival. These holidays last for 3 days. There will be transportation peak during the holidays. It is suggested that tourists avoid the transportation peak.
