I spent a week in Beijing with my 15 year old son. We wanted to tour the Great Wall and decided that catching a bus and doing a tour with a large group just wasn't for us. We booked a tour with ChinaTour late in the day on-line and had a call to our mobile around 6:30pm from our guide for the next day to confirm the pick up time the next morning. I expected it would just be the guide, but it turned out to also be a driver for the car!
We had the best day....the guide's English was good as we discussed all manner of topics which gave us an excellent insight into Chinese history, geography, politics and popular culture. By son commented that this was way better than anything he could have learned in a classroom back home in Australia.
We visited both the Wall and the Ming Tombs.
Can't speak highly enough of the professionalism of our guide. Highly recommended.
