Review of Beijing Dong Chang An Hotel by Cecilia

The good: Dong Chang An has a very good location. It's across Silk Market, and steps away from the subway station. What needs to be improved: The bathroom is very small and cramped. The staff is courteous and helpful but hardly speaks any English. It became a problem when they charged my credit card for the deposit and when I was checking out, the charges were smaller than the deposit, so I was telling the girl at the counter that they should cancel the earlier charge on my card and make a new one reflecting the actual charges. She repeatedly told me no, that she can't do it. Of course, I was irked. She would leave me and call someone on the phone. We did not understand each other, it was a long and frustrating discussion. Finally, she tore the earlier deposit slip, and made a new one with my card. That was when I understood that she knew what to do, but just can't say it. She probably thought I was demanding for cash change. Likewise even if my reservation with Hotel Guide China was confirmed - when I arrived at the hotel, they were not sure I had a reservation ( I had to turn on my laptop and show them the confirmation email), but accomodated me anyway. Other than that, Dong Chang An gives good value for the money.
