Review of Shanghai Astor House Hotel (Pujiang Hotel) by Philippe

Shanghai Astor House Hotel (Pujiang Hotel)

I was very happy to return to the Pujiang Hotel 17 years after I used one of their dorm rooms with a friend in 1989. The renovation is outstanding, the "celebrity room" is amazingly spacious and beautifully equipped, and the place is really full of charm, and the location is fantastic, at walking distance from the Bund and Nanjing Road, a few meters away from the beautiful Garden Bridge. On the negative side, the room was rather noisy due to the night-club downstairs, the breakfast is good but you have to beg for every single thing, from the plates to the yoghurt, and it is quite hard to get a taxi in front of the lobby in spite of uncoordinated but intense efforts of the concierge. Calling a taxi through one of the numerous available phone numbers did not seem to be an option for the reception staff... The manager of the souvenir shop was glad to do it for us after we bought a dress for our daughter. Anyway, the staff is very friendly, so we were inclined to pardon. Overall, fairly good value for money.
