Review of 1 Day Tour: Great Wall, Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City by William

1 Day Tour: Great Wall, Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City

My wife and I thought the trip was well organised and an efficient way to see several key sites in one day. We had a driver and guide in the package. We booked our trip for February 25th. Nevertheless we were spared the pollution that is so prevalent in the Beijing region and the weather was refreshingly cold. The Great Wall was wonderful and all that it is advertised to be, extensive, great stonework, and a steep climb (the Badaling segment). Wear good walking shoes and climb carefully as the stairs can be steep and, if there is snow, treacherous. Tiananmen Square was OK but nothing to kill for. The Forbidden City, on the other hand, was. An extensive array of huge, ornate (on the interior) buildings. What surprised me most was the huge number of local tourists visiting the site. We also witnessed huge local crowds when we visited the Summer Palace the next day. It was nice to see local Chinese experience the glories of Chinese history. When visiting the Forbidden City I couldn't help but think of Bertolucci's cinematic feat, the Last Emperor. Loved the trip thanks to the excellent planning and orchestration by ChinaTour.net!
