Zhoucheng is located 23 kilometers north of Dali Old Town. It is the biggest natural village in Yunnan, which covers an area of 4.7 square kilometers and have a population of over 8000 persons. Almost all the people belong to Bai Minority. Most residents in Zhoucheng believe in Buddhism. There are Buddhism in the village such as Yinxiang Temple, Longquan Temple and etc.
The village is known as “the home of tie-dye”. Tie-dye is a means of dyeing cloth. First, draw a pattern on a white and then uses stitching, ties and clinches to cover painting which is the part that needn’t to be dyed. And then dye several times in the dye vat filled with natural colorant. And then dry the cloth and remove the thread.
