As far as the tour, it was good. The Forbidden City and the Great Wall especially. Make sure you add the chair lift to get up to The Wall. It sounds like the tour guide is trying to just add an extra fee or pull one over on you, but it really is necessary and it's an experience! Once you get to the top, you can just hike from there.
Also, the stops at the Jade shop and tea station were unnecessary and they really pressure you to shop and buy stuff. I really didn't appreciate these stops and could have done without them, but it's part of the package of doing a group tour versus the private.
