Advertised as a guided tour, but the guide would not accompany us to the jiankou wall. Instead she dropped us off at the beginning of a small trail. Finally, it turned out that for a more decent path we should have approached the wall from a different area. We decided to go back to the drop off point and our guide took us to Mutianyu. There she advised us that we could walk to one end and climb over the wall to the Jiankou part. This is what we finally ended up doing and really was worth it. The guide was very nice, but it really was a pity that we weren't accompanied to at least the beginning of the wall itself. It was booked as a guided tour! The way we had our great wall tour, we could also just have arranged a car with driver only...
I had a fantastic time. David was very knowledgeable and helpful. I enjoyed the unrestored portion of the wall with the mix of the restored section. I felt like we went places most tourist never see. The hiking distance was about right and once we climbed to the top, the rest of the day was down hill. I would recommend this to my friends...
