Review of Beijing Golden Palace Silver Street (Bullion KaiYue) Hotel by Frank

Beijing Golden Palace Silver Street (Bullion KaiYue) Hotel

We stayed at the Beijing Golden Palace Silver Street Hotel (BGPSSH) from July 9-12, 2009. We reserved the Yingbin Family Suite Room which is advertised as: “The family suite in this hotel covers 40sq, which has one king bedroom and two single bedrooms with one toilet and two sofas.” When we checked in, the front desk said nothing about not having the room we reserved. Upon arrival at the room we found the room we received was large room split by a door less wall, two beds and two chairs. We called the front desk and were told that the people occupying the room had not checked out and when they checked out we would be notified. I guess they never checked out, we were never called back on this issue. Instead, the hotel staff brought a roll away bed and we stumbled over it the three days we were at the hotel. As mentioned in several of the hotel reviews, we found the location impossible for taxi drivers to find. The map on the back of the BGPSSH’s card leads the drivers to the front of the Novotel Peace Hotel. We eventually learned to just get out at the Novotel and walk around to our hotel. We found the cleanliness standards a little below our expectations(even though we have lived in China for over a year), the daily cleaning people seldom came before 4 or 5 in the afternoon and then spent less than 5 minutes straightening and cleaning the room. Of course, the internet was extremely slow, but this is not an unusual occurrence. On a brighter note, we found ourselves stranded in Beijing after our trip to Inner Mongolia and happened upon a very nice, very clean, and reasonable hotel within walking distance of BGPSSH. We found the three bed room at the Bei Jing Yi Lan Hotel much nicer than the room at BGPSSH.
