We stayed at the Beijing Golden Palace Silver Street Hotel (BGPSSH) from July 9-12, 2009. We reserved the Yingbin Family Suite Room which is advertised as: “The family suite in this hotel covers 40sq, which has one king bedroom and two single bedrooms with one toilet and two sofas.” When we checked in, the front desk said nothing about not having the room we reserved. Upon arrival at the room we found the room we received was large room split by a door less wall, two beds and two chairs. We called the front desk and were told that the people occupying the room had not checked out and when they checked out we would be notified. I guess they never checked out, we were never called back on this issue. Instead, the hotel staff brought a roll away bed and we stumbled over it the three days we were at the hotel. As mentioned in several of the hotel reviews, we found the location impossible for taxi drivers to find. The map on the back of the BGPSSH’s card leads the drivers to the front of the Novotel Peace Hotel. We eventually learned to just get out at the Novotel and walk around to our hotel. We found the cleanliness standards a little below our expectations(even though we have lived in China for over a year), the daily cleaning people seldom came before 4 or 5 in the afternoon and then spent less than 5 minutes straightening and cleaning the room. Of course, the internet was extremely slow, but this is not an unusual occurrence. On a brighter note, we found ourselves stranded in Beijing after our trip to Inner Mongolia and happened upon a very nice, very clean, and reasonable hotel within walking distance of BGPSSH. We found the three bed room at the Bei Jing Yi Lan Hotel much nicer than the room at BGPSSH...

The price is pretty cheap compared with others in the same area. The hotel is located in the center of the city, near several interesting historical places. There is a subway station nearby that virtually leads you anywhere in the city. However to get to the Wanfujin St, you have to take a walk on a small filty path (Jinyu Futong) for about 100 yard. That is what I complained most. Beside, the building is old, the window is old and all furniture is old or broken. Internet is slow and often drops off. Overall, you pay what you get...

Reagan the Hotel manager was very polite and service oriented. We are delighted to say accept it was a smoking environment in the lobby which we didn't like at all. All in all well located to all the conveiences you would find for a hotel. Bom voyage.....

I am very unsatified with the service (rather the lack of service) of this hotel. I was given a room that wasn't what I booked for (much smaller and on lower levers). I spoke with the front desk about it at lenghth, the answer I got was that they had a group which was checking that evening. If I wanted a better room, I had to pay more. There was no way to make them understand that I should get the type of room I paid for. There was no language issue here, I am a native Mandarin speaker. When they can't find a reason for giving a shitty room, they just ignore you. Finally, they said they would give me the proper room if I get up and put all my luggage in the front desk the next morning at 8:00 am and they would switch me to a different room. I just didn't bother with re-packing my stuff and lug it around the hotel again. I was only staying for 2 nights, luckily. The rooms are not sound proof at all. You can hear the TV or conversations next door. I asked for an extra pillow and was told that they've run out of pillows because they had a big group again. The person on the other end kindly told me that there would be one the next morning if I ask for one around 8:00 am. Anyway, over all, I would not recommend this hotel at all. I would not give it any stars in rating. If you want to have a descent time in Beijing, forget this hotel!!..

I'm satisfied with my stay and I what I got from what I paid. The prices are good and it is only a couple of minutes away from WangFuJing. The only problem was that the Taxi drivers didn't always understood how to drive to the hotel, but if you tell the driver to call the hotel they found it without problem. http://chinatour.net/product_reviews_write.php/pro-

I'm satisfied with my stay and I what I got from what I paid. The prices are good and it is only a couple of minutes away from WangFuJing. However, the shower room is too small. The other problem is that the airconditioning is not working well. I check in the hotel on my own, so I needed some help. Eg. the Taxi driver who brought me from the airport took me around some places, and then he charged me with more than twice prices, I asked the hotel staffs to help me with that and tell him that he\'s wrong. nobody helped me. Just one person who was the bell man could speak English a little bit. The time for check in was too long and after such a trip it wasn’t good at all. I was very disappointed in the hotel. Every time that I was calling the front desk I had to wait for long time and finally go down stairs to tell them what I need!!! It was early in the morning that I wanted to check out, it took very long time and when I asked them to call a taxi for me, they said we have our own taxi, with the fixed price to the airport. The cost was 3 times more than the normal taxis, so I didn’t accept. Then they told me they cannot ask for the other taxis, so I ran out the hotel with my suitcases to the street (the hotel was in a alley not on the major street), then I caught and went to the airport. They wanted to charge me for the internet which was against of my per reservation, I didn’t accept it and then they said fine in a very rude manner. There were no more available power receptacles to run other electronic devices without unplugging the TV or Fridge. The restaurant for breakfast was awful, just very small Chinese noodles, I am vegetarian and I couldn’t eat them because there were no any explanation on the food to know what they are. Also not tea or milk or cheese or even jam. And they didn’t return my money back for not having the breakfast since I didn’t have any breakfast over there. I have travelled all over the world, it was my worst experience and I wont go to this hotel never ever, it was a terrible stay. I just liked one thing which was a day tour for visiting the \"great wall\" booked from ChinaTour.NET and the tour guide was very knowledgeable guy, his name is Mike, or Chentao in Chinese. The quality of this tour was excellent...

I check in the hotel with my brother who flew all the way from Detroit to visit me and I wanted to impress him, with a good tour. I was very disappointed in the hotel. The room was very small, the bathroom had no shower curtain, and the water coming from the shower head was very weak, the toilet wouldn't flush properly, there where no windows to look out of, the walls were very thin so you could here others talking. I called the front desk to open line for me to make a local call, they never did. Before arriving I called and asked if there was internet in the room, the lady told me yes, If I bring my computer "laptop" she will just give me the cable and I can connect, but when we got to the hotel we found out there is no internet in the room, the business center only has 2 computers, and neither of them has Yahoo Messenger download on them. There were no more available power receptacles to run other electronic devices without unplugging the TV or Fridge. There is only one elevator and you could probably walk up to the 8th floor before the elevator gets there. The restuarant for breakfast was not satisfying, we ordered bacon with our breakfast, they take one strip of bacon cut it in half and give it to you. We couldn't believe it. And to top it off, when we checked out they charged us for 1 bottle of drinking water and for shampoo we used..can you believe it, charge you for shampoo...we have travelled all over the world, and have never never experience a hotel charging you for water or shampoo. Also there were no available taxis at the hotel..there are a couple of taxis sitting in front of the hotel but no drivers. Also when I called the lady told me the hotel was on, a major street but it is actually like in a alley. So we were deceived by the hotel staff. Also we went to the tea place and they charged us what I now found out was way to much, we got ripped off. So it was a terrible stay, about the only good thing was the private car and the Great Wall. But other than that, no we did not like it...

We stayed for 5 nights.. The service was excellent, except for the room cleaning.. Our coffee cups, tea cups, coffe machine were never washed.. The rest was done quickly we assumed. I did'nt like the concept of the shower beside the toilet sit without any curtain or door. Everything was wet after a shower. It was although a good price for the value.. We were close to wanfujing street and not too far from Forbiden city, Tiamen square and some market.. It is important to insist in the choice of your room... We had a room with window and antiques furnitures, but the 2 rooms that were offered to us in the beginning did'nt have window.. Some rooms are also situate in the middle of the corridor.. So, people can hear and see through the room. Rate: 31/2 starts..

The room of the Golden Palace Silver Street Hotel is a bit small and the facilities in the room are quite old but good value for the money. The location is very quiet though close to the busy Wang Fu Jing Street and is close to food stores. Friendly and helpful staff. Internet connection is RMB 20 per day...

The location is very good ,accesible to the wangfujing street.Nice and very clean room complete with all amenities. The staff are all very friendly and accomodating. The only problem is internet it is very slow and they should improve his especially if your visitor are businessmen ,they need fast access. But I will definitely recommend this hotel...

I stayed there for one night in April 2007. The location is great and the staff very friendly. However, the room I was given was very smelly and I asked to be changed. I also was in the sub-basement and it was very noisy above (chairs moving, etc.,). I would consider staying there again, however, would ensure that I requested non-smoking room and that it be away from any public areas...

The hotel is located in a small alley close to Wangfujing Shopping Street. In the review they said : \"Newly opened in 2004! \" That was the reason of our choice , but it was a little disappointing to me... In the bathroom there is no shower curtain , so all the time everything got wet... There is no wireless internet in the hotel , only 2 computers in a room called \"business center\". The receptionists speak only a few words in English.. Yeah , that is true that the location is fine , close to the main things , but that is the only positive experience of this hotel......

If you do not need the staff for anything, the hotel has a good location in central Beijing, 100 meters from Wangfujing. The rooms look decent, and the price is good. However, for the staff, although some of them are helpful (piccolos are good), a fair portion of them are absolutely hopeless (even if they speak some English). They lost the room key we left in the reception, and did not want to give us a new one (and wanted to charge us for it). Breakfast in the \"western style\" place is a cumbersome process with incredibly inefficient personell. Waited 45 minutes for my ham and cheese omelet, got scrambled eggs with sausage. Had to ask 4 times for my coffee, 5 for my juice. Don\'t use their services, and this is a decent hotel. (There is a good breakfast place in Wangfujing) Internet use is 20RMB per night, bandwidth is decent...

As stated previously, top location but not easy to find. Very friendly staff. All the typical amenities as in other good chinese hotels. I had a discount room on the lower floor and there was some noise from the plumbing, but i didn't have time to be bothered by this. If this matters to you, try to avoid A026, which is at one end of the hallway. Besides that I would stay there again any time...

nice stay! I confirm the optimal position on the map (although not very easy to find..) if you want to be quickly on wangfujing shopping street or even to the tienanmen square. Clean and big-enough rooms in a quite new building...

The location is very convenience as it is only a few minutes walk from WangFuJing. As this hotel with extension wing (called "VIP Building"), it is quite new and the room we stayed in was very clean with all the basic amenities. Overall, the staff were friendly and helpful...

Given the price, the room we stayed in was excellent: very clean, spacious, and with all the basic amenities. Like others have said, there is no shower curtain, but the bathroom is so big this really isn't much of a problem. The staff are helpful, and the location is great...

This hotel is on a side street off the main avenue, Wangfujing. The location is hard to beat, once you find it. As this hotel is new, it was very clean with your basic amenities- in room safe, TV, small table/desk, bathroom. Internet is extra 20 yuan per day though an ethernet connection ($2.75). The regular room was unavailable, so they put me in their traditional Chinese decorated room, which was fine. The bathroom was modern toilet, sink, shower. However, no shower curtain so the bathroom would get wet. English at times limited from staff, but they tried. Overall, excellent value for money. Excellent location...

It took a while a driver that worked as a driver in Beijing for few years...the hotel was nice, but I did not have access to sauna as promissed!..

It took the taxi driver several stops to ask for directions to the hotel but when he did find it the hotel turned out to be in a really great location - a small, quiet side street just a few minutes walk from Wanfunjing Avenue. Apart from having the slowest lift I have ever come across this hotel was great value for money. The rooms were large, clean and well serviced by hotel staff. Staff in reception were also friendly and helpful. We would stay in this hotel again...
