The Garden of Harmonious Interests (XieQuYuan) is known as “garden within a garden”. Among the gardens of northern China, its style is the most representative of the classical gardens of southern China.
It is said that Empress Dowager Cixi used to fish in the pond. In order to please Cixi, the eunuchs secretly dived into the water and hung live fish on her hook. Every time she was very happy to get a lot of fish.
