Located to the north of the Hall of Jade Ripples , Yiyun House was built during the reign of Emperor Qianlong and was repaired in the reign of Emperor Guangxu.
Yiyun House is a typital Chinese courtyard called “siheyuan”. It was originally built as a place to store books. The Chinese character “芸”from its name”宜芸” is a kind of herb that can protect the books from worms.
The main hall was the dwelling of the Empress Longyu, Emperor Guangxu’s wife during Emperor Guangxu’s reign.The unfortunate Empress had to spend most of her lonely days in this courtyard while his husband was deeply in love with his concubine Zhen.
