The Great Mosque of Xi’an is the biggest Muslim mosque. The mosque is located northwest to the Drum Tower. It was first built over 1200 years ago in Tang Dynasty. It is a group of ancient architecture of a large scale. The mosque went through several restorations and extensions in the following dynasties and appears an architectural style of Ming Dynasty.
The mosque covers an area of over 13,000 square kilometers. The shape of the whole area is a rectangle, which consists of 4 courtyards. The wooden archway in the front yard is as high as 9 meters. Its glass roof tile, cornice and carving are very exquisite.
