I recently stayed at Ocean Hotel in Oct. 2006 and must advise future clients of how terrible my experience was. I checked the reviews before I went and chose this hotel because one review stated 5 out of 5 stars. I can't imagine how this is possible. A generous rating would be ONE STAR. The air condition works, but warm air only, regardless of how many times I reported it. The towels were orange in color and very old - some even had red stains on them. The front office staff were unpleasant, I've yet to see a smile. No one could speak english except when they thought there was a problem with my credit card (the card company needed me to contact them for verification). I got a call to come down to the front desk from someone who spoke excellent english, but when I went down that person was not available and I was treated as if I was trying to stay without paying. They would not even assist me to make a phone call. I had to go out to the bank. Luckily I had enough cash to pay them in full. I was misled by the staff about restaurant hours and ended up without dinner because it was closed, etc. etc. I could go on and on. PLEASE DO NOT BE MISLEAD. THIS HOTEL IS NOT WORTH EVEN $20 PER NIGHT. I am a hotel manager myself and value reports, so I wrote a report for their manager before I left and hope they will take notice...

We stayed at the Ocean Hotel for 10 nights in August and cannot understand and the complaints in your reviews. The hotel was great the rooms were clean, the food was cheap and the beer was cold, what more do people want!..

Absolutely appalling place. We stayed 3 nights in November in this institution - it does not deserve to be called a hotel, let alone a 4-star one. Just a few details about the place: it was impossible to get the room temperature lower than 26 degrees Celsius, it is very badly located and the prices are ridiculously high. But what really got us on edge began with a phone call we received on November 4th, at 22:30. It was, good heavens, the manager, a certain Mr. Wiseman (sic). The gentleman asked us what we had done to a hand towel, which their most competent staff had brought to his attention because it was tinged with red. We thought it was a joke, but managed to explain that my wife dyes her hair in a reddish colour (I think this is not forbidden in China). Then Mr. Wiseman decided that we had three options: either to wash the towel ourselves, to pay for special washing or to buy the towel. I took the last option and keep the offending towel (now perfectly white after a short stay in the washing machine) as a remembrance of all that nonsense...
