Tiger Leaping Gorge is one of the deepest gorge in China. It is located in Shangri-la County, Diqing Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, China. Legend says that a fierce tiger sprang down from the top of the mountain and got across the gorge with an easy jump on a huge stone. This is where the name came from.
Tiger Leaping Gorge is famous for its dangerously steep and ruggedness. The gorge can be divided into three parts: the upper part, the middle part and the lower part. The narrowest part of the river is only 30 meters. Yulong Snow Mountain and Haba Snow Mountain standing on both sides of the river makes a 3900 meters’ difference in altitude. How to get there
Buses are available from Shangri-la long-distance bus station and Lijiang long-distance bus station to Tiger Leaping Gorge.

Though the Tiger Leaping Gorge is located in Diqing County. However, it is not far from Lijiang. Some tourists who would like to visit Shangri-la from Lijiang could rent a car and stop by at Tiger Leaping Gorge. The scenic area is one the way of Lijiang to Shangri-la.
