When is the best time to visit the Great Wall? Spring, summer, autumn and winter. Every season has its unique charm. Perhaps it is a bit challenging to hike on the Great Wall in winter due to cold weather especially when the Great Wall is covered with snow. Check the weather report ahead of time.

Most Great Wall sections are open to the public all year round. (Simatai Great Wall may be closed during winter)

Every year, millions of tourists from both home and abroad come to the Great Wall. Because Badaling Great Wall is the most well-known section in China, it is highly recomended not to visit Badaling Great Wall in weekends and Chinese public holidays. You can visit other sections of the Great Wall such as Mutianyu Great Wall, Jinshanling Great Wall, Juyongguan Great Wall etc.

As we known, the Great Wall is very long and has several sections. You will probably wonder which section you should visit. The following is some advice for you.
1) If your time is limited, but you still want to catch a glimpse of the Wall, especially on a busy day, choose Juyongguan Great Wall. It is not as far as the other sections from downtown.
2) If you want to see the most popular and gorgeous section of the Wall in Beijing, go to Badaling Great Wall. It is highly suggested not to visit Badaling Great Wall during the weekends and Chinese public holidays because there will be so many people that you cannot fully enjoy the scene.
3) If you want to visit the Wall with beautiful green scenery and environment ( travel with kids ), visit Mutianyu Great Wall.
4) If you want to hike the wild and original bits of the Wall, go to visit Jinshanling Great Wall, Gubeikou Great Wall, Huanghuacheng Great Wall and Simatai Great Wall (temporarily closed ) or Shixiagan Great Wall.
