The Southern Gong and Drum Lane(Nanluoguxiang)


The Southern Gong and Drum Lane is one of the hidden treasures in Beijing. It is also one of the best persevered residences in Beijing and is famous for its Hutongs and courtyard houses (Siheyuan). The area consists of 16 Hutongs in shape of a fishbone or a centipede. It was formed in the Yuan Dynasty (AD.1267). For its hundreds of years of history, there are many stories behind the Hutongs.

If you think that you can only see the old Beijing here, you are sure to be amazed by the modern atmosphere of many clothing and handcraft shops, bars, restaurants and cafes. Now, it is a place for both locals and foreigners to relax. It is a perfect mixture of an old Beijing and a modern one.
